7:00pm Caucuses convene
This is the FIRST and BASIC step of being involved in the selection process for your elected official. The PRECINCT caucuses and discusses issues relevant to it, decides on who will be their delegate to the CONVENTION and also votes on how they wish the DFL as a party to proceed on various issues. The last is done via the "Resolutions" process, proposals to the greater community to direct the party to proceed in certain directions.
You should become a DELEGATE and go to the Convention. You can come to the Convention but you may NOT vote there if you are not a Delegate from your Precinct.
As a Delegate in the Convention, you can vote on Resolutions, and Endorsements of your favorite person and other issues.

The panel's presenters will be: University of Minnesota researcher Dr. Lauren Martin; Suzanne Koepplinger of the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center; Michele Garnett McKenzie, the Director of Advocacy at The Advocates for Human Rights and Joy Friedman from the St. Paul-based, non-profit Breaking Free. The panel will speak about the issues and local efforts to combat this modern form of slavery. Rachel Herzfeldt-Kamprath of the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC) will moderate.
The event is sponsored by PCA's Center for Wholeness and the JRLC. The church is located at 701 East 130th Street, Burnsville, between Nicollet Avenue and County Road Eleven. The event is free and open to the public and the doors will open at 6 p.m. For more information, call PCA at 952-890-7877 contact JRLC at 612-230-3234 and Rachel@jrlc.org. | | * * * * * | | DFL SD38 Convention | | Location: | Eagan High School, 4185 Braddock Trail, Eagan, MN 55123 | | Date: | March 24, 2012 | | Time: | 9:00am - 3:00pm | | Details: | DFL SD38 Convention is the meeting of the entire senate district. It will be held on March 24th starting at 9:00am until 3:00pm. The locations is at the Eagan High School, 4185 Braddock Trail, Eagan, MN 55123 [map].
Precincts are represented by the Delegates elected in the Caucus. The Senate District is a larger political unit and represents about 45,000 voters. In the DFL SD38 Convention, Senate District 38 of the DFL will be represented.
In the Convention, several issues relevant to the entire Senate District (SD) are handled. One of the topics is the vote on the Resolutions (the proposed changes to the DFL Constitution that you made in the Precinct Caucus). Another important issue is the endorsement of candidates.
In the Candidate Endorsement process, the Senate District states it support for the candidacy of one specific candidate for a position. If you wish Sandy Masin to be endorsed by the Senate District to become your Representative in the House, that is when you get to case your vote as a Delegate of your Precinct in her favor. (There are 2 seats for our Senate District in the House of Representatives.)
Similarly, the Senate District Convention will also endorse a candidate for the SD38 seat in the Senate.
Again, if you are a Delegate of your Precinct, you get to case these important votes.
Other matters will come before the Convention, such as the election Delegates of the Senate District to the various bodies of the DFL. This is a unique chance to be part of the democratic process and really "do politics" in a democractic way.
This is the reason it is important to show up at the Caucus. If you are present, you can be elected to become a Delegate to the Senate District Convention. Of course you also have to attend the Convention! | | * * * * * |
